Gary Bowyer has revealed that Paul Robinson is making good progress in his bid to return to action.

The former England goalkeeper hasn't featured for Rovers since sustaining a back injury last December. Then complications following the operation saw Robinson sustain a blood clot on his lung keeping the 'keeper sidelined for the majority of 2013.

Robinson came off the blood thinning tablets at the end of September and since then has began his rehabilitation, working hard for the last two months. Now it won't be too long before he gets a game under his belt.

"He's maybe a couple of weeks away," said Bowyer. "Maybe sooner if you ask Robbo.

"He's going to continue to work very hard with John Keeley who has done fantastically well with him to get him nearly ready and just now the final stage for him."

Robinson hasn't played under Bowyer's stewardship, but the manager has revealed that despite his absence, the goalkeeper has been an important member of the squad.

"He's been very supportive," added the manager. "We've had several conversations with him and he understands what we are trying to do and I think he likes what we are trying to do. His support has been important to us.

"He's good for the other goalkeepers as well in terms of what he brings and the experience that he passes onto them. So he's been invaluable to us even though he hasn't been able to perform."
