Rovers will be without top scorer Colin Kazim-Richards for the trip to Leeds United on Saturday.
The Turkish international is making good progress following his knee injury but the game against the Yorkshire side comes just too soon for him to feature.
But as one striker misses out another could come in as record signing Jordan Rhodes is primed to make his debut following his £8m move from Huddersfield Town this week.
Speaking on Friday morning, Steve Kean confirmed that Kazim-Richards would miss the Leeds match: "He is very close but this game has come just a little bit too soon for Colin, so unfortunately he'll miss this match but he should be back for the next one."
One player who returns to the squad after a lengthy absence is defender Martin Olsson. The Swedish international hasn't featured since requiring a groin operation after Euro 2012, but following his surprise inclusion amongst the substitutes against MK Dons in midweek Olsson is expected to be named likewise on Saturday.
"Martin will be in the squad," added the Rovers boss. "I would have liked to have put him on on Tuesday night at Milton Keynes but circumstances meant that we had to put on more attacking options."
The manager is expected to select from: Robinson, Orr, Martin Olsson, Givet, Lowe, Fabio Nunes, Dunn, Formica, Rhodes, Pedersen, Murphy, Markus Olsson, Dann, Paulo Jorge, Etuhu, Edinho, Nuno Gomes, Rochina, Goodwillie, Hanley, Ribeiro, Vukcevic, Kean.
Tickets for Saturday's Leeds United match will be available on the day of the game from Elland Road. Prices are £36 for Adults, £24 for Seniors 60 and over, and £17 for Juniors aged 15 and under.
For those supporters who are unable to go, Rovers Player
will be providing full uninterrupted commentary of the match from 2.45pm.
