Rovers' Reserves play their first home game of the season this Friday evening when Bolton Wanderers are the visitors to Ewood Park, kick-off 7.00pm.

Gary Bowyer's young side have had a mixed start in the new Barclays Under-21 Premier League, losing twice and drawing once in their opening three matches.

Rules for the new Under-21 league mean that teams have to play at least two of their home games at their main stadium, with Ewood Park hosting the match against the Trotters this Friday night.

Speaking ahead of the game, coach Gary Bowyer said: "We are really looking forward to playing at Ewood. We were fortunate to play Arsenal at the Emirates earlier in the season which was a fantastic experience.

"Hopefully these games will inspire and motivate the lads to play in these environments week in, week out.

"Playing in these stadiums gives us the opportunity to see how the players can handle these moments because ultimately this is where we want them to be playing every week."

Rovers and Bolton are no strangers at this level as the two teams have regularly been pitted against each other in Reserve league and cup competitions, so Bowyer knows it won't be an easy match.

Rovers are expected to name a young squad, but the game might be used to give a couple of first team players some valuable match time, something that is allowed within the rules of the new league.

"We are expecting it to be a good game," added the development coach. "It is a local derby so there'll be a bit more riding on it.

"I expect it to be a competitive match and for them to be well organised.

"We certainly meet the criteria of being Under-21 as the majority of our lads are aged under 18 and 19. But there is the facility for the manager to play three over age players, so there might be some senior ones who could need some game time."

Season Ticket holders can see Friday's game for free on production of their season ticket card at the turnstiles at the Jack Walker Lower.

General admission prices are £4 adults and £2 concessions.
