Rovers Reserves were given a footballing lesson by Arsenal on Saturday.

Playing their second match of the u21 league, Rovers were no match for Terry Burton's side at the Emirates as the home side won 3-0.

The first chance of the match actually fell to Rovers when a good run and cross from Osayamen Osawe created an opening but Arsenal 'keeper James Shea made a smart interception to stop the ball reaching Josh Morris in the area.

Unfortunately for Rovers from that point on it was one way traffic towards Matty Urwin's goal. The opening strike of the game coming after 14 minutes when Sanchez Watt raced through to collect a pass from Chucks Aneke to fire low under the onrushing 'keeper.

The home side continued to press and just before the break their efforts were rewarded when Thomas Eisfeld converted from close range.

The second half continued in the same vein with Arsenal dominant and Rovers struggling to make any headway, it was only a matter of time before a third would arrive although when it did there was a large element of fortune to it as Connor Henderson's effort took a huge deflection off Peter Wylie and past the wrong-footed Urwin.

"It was total domination from Arsenal," said coach Gary Bowyer. "I was pleased with how we went about it in terms of the defensive side, but we struggled to get out of our half.

"It was a fantastic experience for our young side and I can only thank Arsenal for that, playing at the Emirates was great for the lads.

"But we need to be more of a threat going forwards, we failed to produce against a quality side."
