Rovers youngster Jordan Preston made his international bow for Scotland’s Under-19s last night in their 1-1 draw at home to Iceland.

The 17-year-old striker was introduced on 72 minutes, as Ricky Sbragia’s side came from behind to earn a share of the spoils in the Vauxhall Under-19 International Challenge Match at Forthbank Stadium in Stirling.

Iceland went in front through an Oliver Sigurjonsson free-kick midway through the first half, but Ryan Gauld scored a deserved equaliser in the 57th minute with a superb set-piece of his own.

The friendly formed part of Scotland’s preparations for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers in Belarus next month and the two teams will meet again in a behind-closed-doors match on Thursday.

Preston, who has scored four goals for Rovers’ Under-18s this season, will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt later in the week as he looks to stake a claim for the 18-man squad that will be selected for the qualifying round in October.
