Rovers ace David Dunn has been made Honorary Life President of local team Huncoat United, who are this season celebrating their 30th year in junior football.

The Great Harwood-born midfielder, who is closing in on 350 appearances for the club, showcased his talents as a youngster at Bolton Avenue.

Dunny said: "Huncoat was the first club I ever played for, from the age of seven or eight, and I have nothing but happy memories from my time there. I made some really good friends there, some that I still keep in contact with today. I am therefore delighted to accept the role of Honorary Life President and I look forward to supporting Huncoat in the coming years."

A spokesman for Huncoat said: "Having David as a figurehead for the club was suggested at a previous meeting when we discussed our goals for the next few years. We feel it is a great way of promoting our club and our aims for the future by appointing David in this role, as he went on to build a very successful career in the game.

“For every David Dunn there are literally thousands of other kids who will play for us and might not go on to reach the same heights in the game, but the reality is that these are the children we base our whole club ethos around, ensuring they play the game in a safe environment, for fun, making some life-long friends along the way, while learning important social skills to boot."
