The Under-21s avenged last week's loss with a 1-0 win over Fulham this afternoon.

Rovers' Under-21s gained revenge on Fulham with a 1-0 win at Hotspur Park on Thursday afternoon.

Six days earlier the Cottagers were the victors when the two sides met at Ewood Park, but Gary Bowyer's side grabbed all three points on this occasion courtesy of Osayamen Osawe's second half header.

It was a game in which the home side had the better of the first half, Chris David on two occasions and Cauley Woodrow both going close inside the first ten minutes.

Fulham continued to force the pace but they couldn't find a way past the impressive Matthew Urwin in the Rovers goal.

When Urwin was beaten Rovers had the woodwork to be thankful for, Boumesca Tue Na Bangna striking the foot of the post.

An improved second half showing from Rovers saw the visitors take the game to Fulham. Soon after the restart Neil Etheridge had to be alert to palm away a shot across the box from substitute Osayamen Osawe.

The breakthrough finally came just past the hour mark. John O'Sullivan working well to cross to the back post where Osawe headed home with ease.

Rovers continued to press and Osawe could have grabbed a second ten minutes later but for a last-ditch tackle from Stephen Arthurworrey just as the striker was set to shoot.

Bowyer's boys had to withstand further pressure from Fulham in the closing stages, Urwin saving well to deny Fulham sub Dino Islamovic.

Urwin was in the thick of the action once more in added time, saving well to deny the striker again.

"It was a fantastic effort from a very young team," said Bowyer after the game.

"We showed good honesty and discipline and tactically we were a lot better than Friday night against a much stronger team on this occasion.

"We had a very young team out but it just goes to show what we are capable of when you have eleven working for the cause.

"I was also delighted for Bradley Bauress on his debut for us, he made very good decisions on the ball."

The Under-21s are back in action at the end of March when they face Chelsea at their training ground.
