The Ewood Park encounter, originally scheduled for Saturday August 9th, has been brought forward to the Friday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.
Cardiff did the double over Rovers on their way to the Championship title during the 2012-13 season, winning 4-1 at Ewood Park and 3-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium.
After dispensing with manager Malky Mackay’s services in December 2013, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered relegation from the Premier League last term and will provide a tough opening day test for Rovers, who will be looking to build on last season’s 12-game unbeaten run-in.
The game will carry extra significance for former Cardiff City duo Craig Conway and Rudy Gestede, who both made permanent moves to Rovers in January.
The pair became instant hits at Ewood Park, with Conway scoring four goals and claiming countless assists, whilst Gestede grabbed 13 goals – including nine in his last nine games – as well as being named April’s Championship Player of the Month.
