Rovers' three reserve-team players out on loan all saw match action for their respective clubs over past few days.

Saturday saw Ryan Edwards and Anton Forrester go head-to-head as Chesterfield travelled to Gigg Lane to take on Bury.

Edwards started in the heart of the defence for Spireites who scored twice in the second half to clinch the three points on the opening day of the season.

Jay O'Shea and former Rover Marc Richards grabbing the goals as Edwards played the full match.

Anton Forrester started the game on the bench but played the last 30 minutes for Kevin Blackwell's Bury.

Jack O'Connell was an unused substitute on Saturday as Rochdale started their league campaign with an impressive 3-0 home win over Hartlepool United.

Scott Hogan gave Keith Hill's side a half-time lead, and they added to it in the second half with strikes from George Donnelly and Ian Henderson.

Following the weekend action the Capital One Cup came to the fore with the trio all seeing game time.

Anton Forrester played the last 20 minutes for Bury as they progressed to the second round courtesy of a 3-2 home win over Crewe Alexandra.

Chucks Aneke gave Alex the lead after just 5 minutes, but Bury responded with three goals from Shaun Beeley, Shaun Harrad, and Richard Hinds.

Harry Davis scored to make it 3-2 but the Shakers held on to win.

A late goal from Doncaster Rovers broke Rochdale hearts at Spotland.

The League Two side pushed Doncaster all the way but an 89th minute strike from Bongani Khumalo ensured it was the Sky Bet Championship side that progressed.

Jack O'Connell played the full match for Rochdale, his first appearance for his loan club.

Wednesday night saw Ryan Edwards feature once more for Chesterfield as they ran Leeds United close in the Capital One Cup.

The on loan defender played the full match as Chesterfield took the lead at Elland Road thanks to Eoin Doyle's early strike, but two goals in the space of four minutes from Michael Brown and Dominic Poleon saw the home side win.

This weekend's fixtures sees Bury travel to Oxford United, Chesterfield at home to Cheltenham Town and Rochdale away at Burton Albion.
