Rovers Ladies thumped Bolton Wanderers 9-0 to book their place in the semi-final of the Lancashire Womens Challenge Cup.

Katie Anderton got the ball rolling with a clever chip on eight minutes, before Keeleigh Savage smashed home the second.

Lagan Makin then netted a first-half hat-trick, including a sensational strike into the top corner, to send Rovers in 5-0 up at the break.

The hosts continued to pin Bolton back after the interval and Anderton soon added a sixth after weaving her way through.

Full-back Steph Marsh then got in on the act with a quickfire double, before Kim Turner completed the rout in the 90th minute.

Manager Scott Rogers said: “We played well. I felt that we controlled the game from start to finish, which is what I expected us to do.

“But I must praise Bolton’s effort. The way they continued to try to frustrate us was commendable.

“We have to do well in this competition and it’s important that we come through these games with no injuries. The next four weeks are massive for us now and that is what we are focused on.”
