Women's Premier League Northern Division
Rovers Ladies 2-1 Preston North End
Steph Marsh scored a stoppage-time winner, as Rovers Ladies left it late to defeat local rivals Preston North End 2-1.
Marsh was also on the scoresheet in the first half, as Andy Ramskill’s side made it back-to-back league wins ahead of tonight’s Lancashire Cup final against Blackpool Wren Rovers.
The hosts had to come from behind, as Preston opened the scoring early on from the penalty spot.
Rovers responded well and equalised soon after when Danielle Cox’s cross was headed into the top corner by Marsh.
Gemma Jackson had to push a Preston free-kick around the post, before Rovers were denied the lead when Marsh forced a fine save from the Preston stopper.
The visiting keeper remained the busier after the break, called upon to deny Rhiannon Roberts from point-blank range, before Marsh’s free-kick was fired straight into her hands.
Cox then fired over, before Marsh’s volley deflected wide and Nicky Twohig tried her luck from long range.
Rovers were finally rewarded in added-time when substitute Sophie Flynn played the ball square to Marsh, whose strike found the bottom corner.
ROVERS: Jackson, Oates, Cox, Roberts (Flynn 88), Marsh, Fuller, Twohig, Weston, O’Donnell (Westerman 60), Halligan, Savage (N. Forster 72).
