Women's Premier League Northern Division
Rovers Ladies 3-1 Sheffield FC
Rovers Ladies returned to winning ways with an impressive 3-1 victory at home to league leaders Sheffield FC.
An even first half ended in Rovers' favour courtesy of Rhiannon Roberts' opener six minutes before the break. After receiving the ball from a throw-in, Roberts cut in from the left before striking a shot into the bottom corner.
The home side doubled their advantage shortly before the hour mark. Evie Manning latched onto a through ball, before shrugging off the attentions of the last defender and placing a left-foot shot past the keeper.
Sophie Flynn fired just wide from the edge of the area, before Rovers added a third. Steph Marsh whipped in a corner from the right, which caused chaos in the Sheffield defence, and the ball dropped to Jade Boulton, who lashed home.
Sheffield pulled a goal back in the closing stages, with a shot from the edge of the box, but it proved too little too late.
Interim manager Andy Ramskill said: "I was very pleased with both the work ethic and the performance of the players. We battled harder than them and took our chances when they came along. They struggled to find a way past our defensive wall.
"I want to say a big thank you to the players for all their efforts and I thought their attitude was spot on. If we keep going like that until the end of the season, I'm sure we'll finish in a much higher league position and hopefully with a cup win under our belts."
