Security at Ewood Park is in safe hands after Rovers’ chief of security Phil Moulton became only the third person in the British Shotokan Kyogi to hold an 8th dan black belt in karate.

The martial arts expert, who has protected many clients from the worlds of football and entertainment over the past 23 years, including Pele, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Michel Platini and Whitney Houston to name a few, has spent over 40 years working towards his latest achievement.

Now 53, Phil took up the sport at the age of 11 and still trains every day. He has competed at every level, winning numerous titles, including the 1996 World Open. He is also a qualified teacher and has helped many of his students gain black belt status and national recognition.

Phil, who was a security manager with The FA for nine years before joining Rovers, said: “It has taken me a long time to reach this grade, but I love my sport, as it is great for discipline, focus and keeping fit.

“I also enjoy passing my knowledge on to other people and I am looking forward to working towards my 9th dan in nine year’s time.”
