As he prepares his squad for this evening's visit of Brighton & Hove Albion, the manager has warned that it might take some time before the changes he implements start to take effect.
"There's no panicking from my point of view, I've said to the players it is going to take a bit of time," said Appleton.
"It doesn't change the objective in terms of our ambitions to get into the play-offs. There's still is a chance because of the amount of games left and the amount of games that we need to win.
"It might get worse before it gets better and that would be my message, but when it does get better it'll be as good as we've seen for a long time."
Rovers are currently 14th in the table, ten points from the top-six, but tonight's game represents a chance to close the gap.
"The table doesn't lie, it is what it is," added the Rovers boss. "The win ratio this year pretty much suggests that that is exactly where they are.
"It is okay having a team on paper of so-called experience and class but team-sheets never win games. The players that go on the field win games of football."
