Gary Bowyer was delighted with the display from his young side as the Under-21s defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Leigh on Monday night.
Rovers finally won their first home game of the season at the fourth attempt as second half goals from Osayamen Osawe and Curtis Haley gave the Reserves a comfortable victory.
Speaking to Rovers Player
after the match, Bowyer said: "I was pleased with the performance against a good West Brom team.
"I thought it was a competitive game and our lads stood up to it well and showed a good character when they got in front to maintain the lead.
"Then Curtis came on at the end and scored which just helped us a little bit.
"I thought the back four were tremendous and Grzegorz in goal as well. They have worked hard, put the effort in training this week and reap the rewards.
"I can't signal anyone out in the back four, I thought they were all tremendous."
Next up for the Under-21s is a home match against Arsenal on Monday at Leigh, a side that defeated them 3-0 back in September.
"We'll de-brief this game and then we'll set our stall out to look a performance on against Arsenal. They are a very good team and probably in all our games this year it is one game where we've not really competed enough in, so we'll be looking to try and change that next week."
Season Ticket holders wishing to see the match against Arsenal next Monday can do so for free on production of their season ticket card on the turnstiles at Leigh.
General admission prices for the 7.00pm kick-off are £4 adults and £2 concessions.
