Tom Cairney was delighted to get his first goal of the season as Rovers drew 1-1 with Cardiff City on Friday night.

The midfielder's stunning 25-yard helped Rovers claim an opening day point against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

"I scored the first home goal of the season last season, and I've done it again," Cairney told Radio Rovers post-match.

"So on a personal level it was a great moment for me and another good goal."

Boss Gary Bowyer has challenged the 23-year-old to find the back of the net with more regularity this season, something that Cairney is hopeful he can do.

"I try to get into goalscoring positions and to create chances for other people," added Cairney. "I got six last season so I'd love to try and beat that.

"I've just got to keep trying to put in the same performances, I'll play anywhere and try and do my best for the team. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully it'll all come together."

Rovers are back in action this Tuesday night when Scunthorpe United are the visitors to Ewood Park in the opening round of the Capital One Cup.

Tickets for the match will be on sale up until the 7.45pm kick-off. Prices are from £12 Adults, £8 Seniors and young adults. Whilst under 17s can see the match for just £1!
