Gary Bowyer paid tribute to striker Jordan Rhodes after his goal set Rovers on their way to all three points against AFC Bournemouth.

The striker has had to endure a difficult few days of speculation over his Rovers future, but he brushed that aside to score his first goal of the season on his 100th appearance.

Speaking to Radio Rovers after the game, the manager said: "I'm delighted for Jordan Rhodes, for all the speculation and everything, to go out and score the goal he did, magnificent.

"He made it himself, it was a fantastic goal. He's a credit after what he has gone through. He's handled it superbly, we are delighted with him."

Goals from Grant Hanley and Rudy Gestede followed to put Rovers fully in command, yet the game ended on a nervy note after the decision to award the visitors a penalty.

"I think the referee decision makes it nervy," added the Rovers boss. "The lad hasn't even touched him, I don't know what we do. Once again we get let down by the penalty decision that goes against us."

The Rovers boss was delighted to get back to winning ways after the midweek loss to Norwich City, but always had faith that the players would do so.

"The response was never in doubt," added Bowyer. "The way that the lads were was unbelievable, they are a credit to the club."
