The Benin international was handed his first start for Rovers since his move from Cardiff City last month, playing just over an hour in the goalless draw at Ewood Park.
Gestede almost provided a first half assist when his flick set Jordan Rhodes through but his strike was off target. Then in the second half the forward almost notched himself after creating a chance, but Chris Kirkland saved his low shot.
Speaking to Radio Rovers after the game, manager Gary Bowyer said: "He gave us some physical presence. Against a big team like Sheffield Wednesday we felt we needed that up there.
"With his chance I think he should make the goalkeeper do a little bit more than what he did.
"We are delighted to have him on the pitch for an hour, the sharpness will come with him on that."
Rovers are back in action this Sunday when Birmingham City are the visitors to Ewood Park.
