Kilgallon limped out of action against Bolton Wanderers a fortnight ago with a groin strain but has made good progress and is back in the squad for Saturday's match against Huddersfield Town.
He could also be joined by club captain Grant Hanley as results of a scan on his hamstring injury sustained on Wednesday night have proved to be positive.
Speaking on Friday, the manager confirmed: "KIlla is back in training so that is a massive boost for us. His experience at this time will be a big plus for us.
"With Grant we are going to give him every chance but we are going to have to be sensible.
"The lad is desperate to play, but we don't want to push him too hard and risk losing him for the rest of the season.
"We'll give him every chance, we'll see how he is in the morning, it has improved dramatically since yesterday lunchtime and we'll see how he goes.
"There is no severe damage there, we've had it all checked out."
Josh King and Dickson Etuhu will both step up their fitness with a runout for the Under-21s this evening against Liverpool, but Tom Cairney is still absent.
"Tom is still missing," added Bowyer. "He's been out jogging today so hopefully that's the start of him on his recovery.
"We've had to settle him down as it just flared up a little in midweek but it has settled down and he's started again now."
Tickets for Saturday's game go off sale at Ewood Park at 4pm. Huddersfield are selling on the day of the game with tickets priced at £25 Adults, £15 Seniors, £10 Under-18s and £5 for Under-8s. Supporters should note that there will be no Under-8 sales on the day.
