The Rovers defender, who faces his former club for the first time since his £6m move 15 months ago, has fond memories of his time with midlands club.
"Obviously it is just another game and another three points, but it is always nice to play against your old team and hopefully we can come out on top," said Dann.
"I really enjoyed my time there, it is a really good club with good people and we had some good times there, finishing 9th in the league and winning the Carling Cup.
"The last time I was there was when we were getting relegated and it was even more painful watching it for the lost four months of the season, it was harder than playing knowing you can do much about it."
Birmingham have had something of a stop-start campaign so far, but Dann believes that they still have the quality amongst their ranks to pose a threat to Rovers on Saturday.
"I think they've obviously had a difficult time with the situation with their owners and whatever else has been going on at the club," added Dann.
"They've changed their manager after Chris Hughton did a great job last season, so I think with a new change of manager coming in it is always different.
"They've got different players, but they've still got some quality players there so if they start getting it right on the pitch then they are going to be up there at the end of the season as well.
"They've obviously started off not as good as they would have liked but there is no reason why a team like them with the players they've got can not be further up the league."
