Blackburn with Darwen Council have praised the club for treating over 40 young people, aged between 10 and 15, to a day to remember at Rovers’ last Ewood encounter against Wolves.

The trip saw children from a range of backgrounds and from throughout the Borough coming together for the special outing.

The day kicked off with a tour of the stadium, which concluded in the Strikers Lounge, where the group received a pre-match meal and took part in a quiz.

The young people also got the opportunity to take part in a penalty shoot-out competition on the pitch at half-time and met Rovers’ £3m summer signing Leon Best.

Executive member for Children’s Services, Councillor Maureen Bateson, said: “I want to say a massive thank you to all who were involved in the great day the club provided for the 43 young guests.

“This was a wonderful opportunity which was made possible by Rovers’ Global Advisor Shebby Singh and the BRFC Action Group, who have worked with staff from the Council and the Club to provide these deserving young people with this great opportunity.

“The young people had a truly memorable day, all thanks to the fantastic staff at Rovers. They did a great job in sometimes difficult circumstances and in such a short timescale to get everything sorted.

“The young people were thrilled with the appearance of Leon Best and those who took part in the penalty shoot-out will I know always remember the experience.

“Many of the young people who came with us have difficult challenges in their life and I know this day meant so much to all of them.”
