The Rovers boss gave debuts to Tommy Spurr, Alan Judge and Alex Marrow, whilst Chris Taylor and Tom Cairney came off the bench to have an impact in the second half.
"I thought the new lads were excellent," said Bowyer.
"Tommy Spurr was fantastic, up and down the left hand side. His throw is a weapon for us so that adds an extra dimension to our game.
"I thought Judge was excellent, he was busy as ever like we know he can be, Alex Marrow put a right good shift in.
"Then you look at the substitutions, Chris Taylor's ball for Best's goal was an excellent delivery, he gives us something different as well.
"And Tom Cairney came on and I thought he got us playing as well, so I'm delighted with the performance, I just think it deserved a lot more than the point."
Rovers are back in action this Wednesday night when they travel to Brunton Park to take on Carlisle United in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
