Manager Steve Kean was delighted to see Colin Kazim-Richards get off the mark on the opening day.
Rovers' latest signing, their eighth of a busy summer in the transfer market, wasted little time in getting amongst the goals, grabbing the opener as Rovers drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town.
Speaking after the match, Kean said: "It is a tough role up there, but I think if you ask both centre halves of Ipswich what kind of day they had they'd say they had a very hard time today.
"He has that presence and power, his runs are very clever, he gets in a couple of situations just through perfect timing and probably on another day he gets his second goal and it becomes a fantastic away debut for him.
"But I think today he showed that he is going to cause all sorts of problems for the opposition and I'm sure centre halves will hate to play against him."
Rovers took the lead in the 21st minute at Portman Road when from a Morten Gamst Pedersen corner Scott Dann nodded the ball onto Kazim-Richards and he couldn't miss from six yards as he powered a header past Scott Loach.
"His anticipation is fantastic," added the Rovers boss. "He moves in the box when Scotty gets a great header from Morten's delivery. He's on the move, he's very slippery, he's hard to pick up so I think he showed a lot of good qualities.
"He can finish, predominantly he's played wide in his career but we feel as though he can play through the middle and it was a very good performance today."
