Rovers manager Gary Bowyer is delighted to welcome another ‘winner’ into his squad following the capture of Corry Evans from Hull.

The Northern Ireland international, who has signed a three-year deal at Ewood Park, played a pivotal role as the Tigers secured promotion to the Premier League last season.

Evans’ arrival follows yesterday’s double swoop for Tommy Spurr, who helped Doncaster lift the League One title, and fellow Hull midfielder Tom Cairney.

“We’re delighted that we’ve been able to bring him in,” said the Rovers boss.

“He’s got great pedigree, having come from Manchester United before he was at Hull.

“He’s a great lad and he’s another winner. He experienced promotion with Hull and played a key role in it and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“He’s a midfielder who will be competitive in the Championship. He can handle the ball, he’s not afraid to put his foot in and whatever system we way, whether it’s two in midfield or three in midfield, he’s more than capable of fitting in with any of those roles.

“Having got Tom Cairney in from Hull as well yesterday, we’ve got really good competition for places in midfield now.

“We’ve got to be thankful to Steve Bruce. He’s helped us out brilliantly with both deals. And these players are bringing the right mentality, as with Tommy Spurr.

“They got promoted last year with the clubs that they played for and that’s important. We’ve got to try and get that mentality into the dressing room.”

Fellow new boy Cairney, who joined on a six-month loan from Hull yesterday, was also delighted to be reunited with his former team-mate.

“It’s good to have someone you know, to help you settle in,” said the 22-year-old.

“I’ve played with him for the past couple of years. He’s got a Man United background and you can’t argue with their training or the players they develop. He’s a good accomplished midfielder and I’m looking forward to playing with him again.”
