Rovers' Under-18s went goal crazy once more in a 12-goal thriller at Brockhall on Tuesday.

Following on from victories over Burton Albion, Nike Academy and Liverpool County FA, the young Rovers made it four wins from four with an amazing 8-4 victory over Rochdale.

The opening goal didn't arrive until the 20th minute with the visitors taking the lead. Poor defending from a corner kick allowing Rochdale a free header in the box.

Rovers responded quickly with four goals in ten minutes, Sam Joel equalised on 21 before George Pierce scored his first goal for the Academy a minute later.

Ian Vicars and trialist Jan Bednarek added to the Rovers goal tally as they stormed into a 4-1 lead.

There was still time before the break for Rochdale to pull a goal back as the half ended a breathless 4-2.

The goals continued to flow in the second half, Yeray Torres made it 5-2 with a 25-yard screamer, before Dean Rittenberg, who had looked sharp throughout, added a deserved 6th.

Dale then pulled two goals back themselves to close the gap to 6-4, but on 88 Jordan Preston continued his fine pre-season goalscoring record to make it 7-4.

The last action of the game saw Rovers add an eighth, Ian Vicars grabbing his second of the match.

Speaking after the match coach David Lowe said: "It was an entertaining game but a frustrating one for the two coaches.

"The lads played with enthusiasm and passion and looked like they really enjoyed it.

"However we have work to do on our defending, especially from free-kicks and corners. It was a worthwhile exercise with many of the boys getting 90 minutes under their belts."

The Under-18s are back in action this Friday when they travel to take on Welsh Premier League side Bala Town.
