Michael Appleton was delighted to see Leon Best back in action in Tuesday's match against Bolton Wanderers.

The 26-year-old finally made his competitive debut in a Rovers shirt, almost eight months since sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury during a pre-season match against AEK Athens.

The former Newcastle United man has worked hard to get back to full fitness, so it was a welcome sight to see the striker back out there.

"I think it was massive for him, the club and also the supporters," said boss Appleton on Best's return.

"To see him back out there in the shirt and on the pitch is a good feeling from my point of view.

"The thought of having him available week-in, week-out, whets the appetite and it gives me options.

"He is obviously a player that opposition players and opposition managers won't fancy coming up against."

Best played the final 10 minutes of the match at the Reebok Stadium and he is expected to get more game time in this Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final tie with Millwall, and Appleton fully believes that the striker will be pressing his claims for a first start.

"You look at the situation and we have of people being cup-tied for the weekend," added Appleton. "I've no doubts whatsoever that he'll be banging on my door to try and get a place in the starting line-up for the weekend.

"Obviously that's a decision between myself and the staff that we have to come to, if it is right to start him and he's up for it and ready for it then we will do.

"If not then we'll just do it gradually."

Tickets for Sunday's cup tie will be on sale at Ewood Park until Friday lunchtime. A limited number will be available on the day of the game at the North Stand ticket office from 12 noon.
