A tough challenge

As Rovers prepare to take on Ipswich this afternoon, Gary Bowyer has revealed his admiration for Town boss Mick McCarthy.

Rovers take on the Tractor Boys at Ewood Park later today in what will be another tough encounter, with Bowyer full of praise for 'father figure' McCarthy.

"We can take points off them and get a little bit closer to them and that is the challenge for us on Saturday," Bowyer told Rovers Player.

"It is going to be a tough challenge for us because they've done ever so well this season.

"They've a top manager, the experience that Mick McCarthy has got and the knowledge is phenomenal and I think for every manager that is just starting off he's certainly that we all look up to and see as a role model because of what he has done in the game and how many games he has managed."

The corresponding fixture at Portman Road back in December was certainly one to forget for the manager. A poor second half display lead to a disappointing 3-1 loss.

"The Ipswich game away from home was not a pleasant one for us," added Bowyer. "We started slowly, then got back into the game and looked very dominant towards half-time and you felt as we went back out for the second half that we were going to push on.

"But we went the other way and at the end there were home truths told and it wasn't a nice journey back.

"But the response from the players was excellent as we then went to QPR and drew 0-0 there and showed the battling qualities and the character that we know that they've lads have got.

"I think it is massive progress that we've made, we've got a long way to go still. It is going to take another couple of windows, but from that game at Ipswich we have certainly made giant strides."

Tickets for this afternoon's game will be on sale until the 3.00pm kick-off priced from £15 Adults, £10 Seniors and £5 Juniors.
