Rovers boss Gary Bowyer was delighted with the way his younger players performed in the friendly match against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday evening.

With the majority of the seniors getting 70 minutes under their belts during the 1-0 win at Gresty Road, Bowyer handed out some first team experience to regulars of the Under-21 squad, and the manager was pleased with how they handled it.

"Crewe are a good team and they rightly have a reputation for producing good footballers," said the Rovers boss.

"So I thought it was important to give them 20 minutes to have a look to see who could possibly step up to this stage.

"There is no better time than in pre-season and I thought all of them went out there and gave a good account of themselves which was pleasing because we need them to be pushing to try and break into the squad."

The senior side are back in action this Saturday away at Rochdale, whilst the Under-21s face Harrogate Town.
