Rovers kick off their campaign away at Derby County, the club Bowyer joined Rovers from, whilst the first home game of the season sees Nottingham Forest visit Ewood Park on August 10.
Forest were the first team Bowyer faced at home as caretaker boss back on New Years Day and now they'll be the first with him in permanent charge.
"Obviously it is fantastic for myself personally because I'm a Forest fan and because of the history of the club and my family," said the Rovers boss.
"It is going to be a special day like it was the last time when we played them.
"It is the start of our home campaign, we want to make Ewood a difficult place to come and that is what we'll be looking to do."
The Rovers boss knows that this season will be just as tough with plenty of enticing matches along the way.
"It is going to be an exciting year for the north west clubs as there are a lot of derbies this year with Wigan coming down," added Bowyer.
"We are going to be well entertained up here with the local derbies which makes the league even more competitive for us.
"You look at the league and you know it is going to be difficult, there are no easy games as was proved last season."
