The versatile midfielder scored a stunning strike to make it 1-1 and then had a hand in Craig Conway giving the home side the lead, but Preston pegged Rovers back in the final stages to ensure a third consecutive 2-2 draw.
Bennett feels the side are putting in the performances and despite the upset of missing out on three points so late, he thinks they are making positive strides that will reap their rewards.
"After the Norwich and the Fulham games we were looking to come into the home game and get the three points to make the two on the road even better," Bennett told Radio Rovers. "So there is massive disappointment really.
"Obviously you won't want to drop points but there are positive signs that we are disappointed that we've been to Norwich and Fulham and dominated a Preston team who are six points off the play-offs.
"So it is hugely disappointing but we are making strides in the right direction, but we have got to try and turn those points into the three.
"We need to get the points on the board, it is alright having good performances and saying we're dominating games, to concede in the manner that we did in the last minute is obviously gut-wrenching."
Rovers are back in action after the international break with a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
